A partnership with lasting impact

MYOF, Mavs and GGs partner together to help GHS volleyball team

The Maverick Youth Opportunities Fund (MYOF) is proud to partner with the Maverick Volleyball Club and the Gee-Gees Woman’s Volleyball team to offer new and used volleyball equipment to the Gloucester High School girl’s team, the Gators.

“Our school is in an economically challenged area, and our sports budget is limited when it comes to buying equipment,” says Bailey Boyle, the GHS girl’s volleyball coach. “Having the assistance from MYOF, Mavericks and the GGs is incredible, and will make a huge difference to our team. My athletes greatly appreciate this recognition, and to be honest, they deserve it for all their dedication to our team and their school.”

The donation consisted of 18 new knee pads and 12 used volleyballs. Plus, a two-hour volleyball clinic was held for the Gator athletes, hosted by John Nguyen, a veteran Maverick high-performance volleyball coach, and two of his 17U national team athletes, Karissa and Laura. They set up some interactive volleyball drills to work on some volleyball skills that will help the Gator’s in their high school play-offs.

“We are thrilled to align with two significant partners within the volleyball community to support youth and all their efforts to participate in sport,” states Sheila Roy, chair of MYOF. “We know the power of sport in helping youth learn new skills – not just technical skills, but also the essential life skills that will help them succeed in the future. Whether it is learning how to work in a team, setting goals, supporting your teammates, and so many other important life lessons. Sport is a catalyst for positive outcomes – we truly believe this.”

MYOF would like to thank everyone involved in the partnership initiative. We look forward to many more opportunities to affect change in the future!

NOTE: The Gator’s went on to the semi-finals in the high school city championships! Go Gators!
